JOB SUMMARY:

With an over-the-road network that is built on 6,500 contracted motor carriers our services include; Dry Van, LTL, Expedite (Just-in-Time), Flatbed, Temperature Control, and other Specialized Services. The Logistics Sales Professional is accountable for selling these services to new prospective customers, primarily over the phone. This position is not only responsible for new customer growth, but also to increase existing customer penetration, promote customer retention and to minimize customer turnover. The position reports to a team leader, and is part of a ten to twelve person team that works cooperatively to win new business and move the shipments by a set of contracted carriers.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

  • Manage customer relationships. Responsible for attracting and setting-up new customers, growing existing customer relationships, and providing “best-in-class” customer service. Responsibilities also include a commitment to solicit business, both by phone and email, on a daily basis.
  • Be a market expert. Responsible for understanding the transportation marketplace to competitively quote and secure shipments. Responsibilities also include being a transportation market expert for value-add to the customer relationship.
  • Pricing and quoting shipments. Responsible for pricing available shipments in accordance with pricing guidelines to achieve targeted profits per load. Responsibilities also include using system resources and processes to determine pricing and increase secure percentages.
  • Negotiating customer rates. Responsible for selling the best possible rate to the customer to maximize margins. Responsibilities also include managing and negotiating accessorial charges as incurred.
  • On-boarding customers and detailing requirements. Responsible for knowing the customer’s shipping requirements and communicating requirements to the Logistics Coordinator (Dispatch) for load planning. Responsibilities also include understanding our operating system capabilities to successfully detail shipping requirements.
  • Shipment management. Responsible for entering shipment details into the Pacer computer system that will flow all required information to people responsible for moving the freight, billing the customer and paying the carriers both timely and accurately. Responsibilities also include notifying the customer of certain milestones throughout the shipment execution process – provide a single point of contact for customers to handle shipments, track shipments, explain billing, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a fast-paced office environment, where enthusiasm and energy is high. This is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like. The position requires about 95% of time spent communicating with customers via telephone. Eligible candidates must meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations: (1) use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment, (2) reach with hands and arms, (3) talk and hear, (4) see and be able to read, write, and interpret text, spreadsheet, and graphical documents, and (5) occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study; Logistics, Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales, Business Management, etc.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of work experience; experience in transportation and/or logistics industries is preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and precisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Possesses strong negotiation skills – able to maximize financial returns.
  • Strong problem solving skills – possesses the ability to quickly offer creative solutions to customers.
  • Have the ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Well-developed, basic math skills.
  • Experience participating in competitive team sports strongly preferred
  • Competent computer user
